# Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Delta MCP: is it free, is it open source, does it change your MCP servers, where your data goes, undo, payments and how to stop.

## Is Delta MCP free?

Yes. Every feature is in the free app, with no account and no limit on servers. Nothing is locked behind a paid plan. Supporting Delta MCP from $5 a month, with beta versions and a supporters’ Discord: not yet. Everyone will still get the same app. See [Pricing](https://www.mcpdelta.com/pricing).

## Is Delta MCP open source?

No. Delta MCP is a free app, and its source code is not public. How it works is written out in these docs, how it is measured is on the [Benchmarks](https://www.mcpdelta.com/benchmarks) page, and everything it does on your computer is recorded in Activity. See [Pricing](https://www.mcpdelta.com/pricing).

## Does it change my MCP servers?

No. Your servers stay exactly as they are, and every original tool stays callable by name. What changes is your AI apps’ settings: Delta MCP adds one entry, `mcpdelta`, and turns off the direct entry of each server it moves. It keeps the original entries, and [Put everything back](https://www.mcpdelta.com/docs/put-everything-back) restores them.

## Does my data go through your servers?

No. Delta MCP runs on your computer and talks to your servers directly. Your tools, tasks and history never leave it. In this version it sends nothing of its own. A check for new versions, and one anonymous number a day (your tokens saved, asked at first launch, off in Settings): not yet. See [Where your data lives](https://www.mcpdelta.com/docs/data).

## Why does it sometimes cost more tokens?

A single one-step question costs about 1.25 times the tokens, because your AI reads Delta MCP’s short description on every call. The saving comes from tasks with several steps: in our measurements they used 3.3 to 24.1 times fewer tokens. Those are our own benchmarks, run with Claude Code and Sonnet 5.5. See [Benchmarks](https://www.mcpdelta.com/benchmarks). To see where MCP tokens go in the first place, read [How to reduce MCP token usage](https://www.mcpdelta.com/guides/reduce-mcp-token-usage).

## Which AI apps does it work with?

Twelve are recognised: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Cline, Roo Code, LM Studio, Amazon Q, Codex and Zed. Delta MCP switches the first ten over for you. Codex and Zed are set up by hand for now. Claude’s own connectors, such as Gmail, run inside Claude and stay there. See [Supported AI apps](https://www.mcpdelta.com/docs/supported-apps).

## How do I stop using it?

Open Settings and click Put everything back. Every connector returns to your AI apps exactly as it was, and what Delta MCP did stays in Activity. Restart your AI apps to use your servers directly again. To remove the app and its data too, follow [Uninstall](https://www.mcpdelta.com/docs/uninstall).

## Where are my tasks?

In Activity, in the app: one sentence per task, with each change before and after, and Undo. Each task is also a file in the `tasks` folder of `~/.mcpdelta`, next to a journal that only grows. Settings, then Export everything, saves your history as one readable file with no secret in it. Delta MCP never deletes tasks on its own.

## Can I undo everything?

Not everything. Undo puts back what a task changed, then checks it. A deleted item can come back as a new copy with a new name. Some actions can’t be undone, like a message already sent or money already gone: Delta MCP tells you which, before and after. If something changed since, Undo won’t overwrite it. See [Activity and Undo](https://www.mcpdelta.com/docs/activity-and-undo).

## Can my AI pay for things?

Yes, if the connector’s mode lets it. In this version, a payment follows the connector’s [mode](https://www.mcpdelta.com/docs/modes), like any change. An action named for paying, buying, refunding or transferring counts as sending: **Ask before deleting or sending**, the suggested mode, shows you a card first. **Change on its own** lets it through. On a Mac you approve the card with Touch ID, your watch or your password. Elsewhere it is a browser page for now, and it says it is weaker.

Not yet: the rule that makes money that leaves always ask, whatever the mode, and that your AI can never loosen. A Payments page will describe it.

## Do I need an account?

No. You don’t need one to download or use Delta MCP. An optional account, holding your email and your support plan and nothing about your work: not yet. Your tools, tasks and history stay on your computer.
