Quickstart

Delta MCP is a free app that sits between your AI and its MCP servers. In two minutes it finds the servers your AI apps use and switches them over. Everything can be put back in one click.

On this page

1 Download and open Delta MCP

Get it for macOS (Apple chip or Intel), Windows or Linux from the download page. No account is needed. The app brings its own runtime: nothing else to install.

2 Let it find your tools

On first launch, Delta MCP reads the MCP servers set up in your AI apps: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Cline, Roo Code, LM Studio and Amazon Q. It checks each one live and shows what it found.

  • Sign in first: a server that needs you to sign in says so; sign in from Connectors.
  • Stays in Claude: Claude’s own connectors run inside Claude and can’t go through Delta MCP.
  • Choose a mode: what your AI may change on its own. The suggestion, Change on its own, shows everything in Activity and asks you before any payment.
Codex and Zed are set up by hand for now: their servers stay direct until you add Delta MCP to their settings.

3 Click Optimize, then restart your AI apps

Delta MCP adds itself to each app first, then turns off each server’s direct entry, so no app is ever left without its tools. It keeps a dated copy of every file it changes. Then quit and reopen Claude Desktop, or start a new conversation in Claude Code, so they go through Delta MCP.

4 Give your AI a real task

Ask for something with several steps, in your own words: “close every finished issue in Linear and post a summary in #releases”. Your AI now sees three tools instead of every tool of every server:

delta Do it. Runs the whole task: reads now; changes are checked, then made together at the end, all or nothing, read back, and can be undone.
delta_read Read. Read without changing anything: a service’s tools, a search, a past result, the journal. Or a program whose changes are only planned.
delta_apply Apply or undo. Apply a pending change, undo an applied one, or keep this conversation’s work as a shortcut.

It writes the task as one program. Delta MCP checks it, makes the fewest calls, all or nothing, reads them back, and the task appears in Activity with Undo.

5 Put everything back, any time

Settings, then Put everything back: every connector returns to your AI apps exactly as it was, and what Delta MCP did stays in Activity. Restart your AI apps to use the servers directly again.

From the command line

The same steps, in a terminal. Each command shows its plan and asks before changing anything.

# what your MCP servers cost in every conversation
mcpdelta diagnose
# move them behind Delta MCP (shows the plan, then asks)
mcpdelta use --all
# put them back direct, exactly as before
mcpdelta restore --all
Add --dry-run to see the plan without changing anything, and --yes to skip the question in a script.
